Did you know that Montebello means beautiful mountain in Italian?
This land where our community stands has strong ties to local and national history. Prior owners include Lord Bryan Fairfax and the grandson of the fourth George Mason, the writer of Virginia's first Constitution and Declaration of Rights (his name was also George Mason). From forts built to protect Washington, DC during the Civil war, to a country club and family farm, this property has has many "lives" before Montebello and the nearby Huntington Metro Station were built several decades ago. The name Mount Eagle was retained on the access road as a tribute to the history of the property. Although we've changed a few things since our doors first opened, the luxurious lifestyle and relaxed, yet friendly atmosphere we've created here continues.
For a detailed history of the Montebello site and the area, see Montebello at Mount Eagle, by Nan Netherton, produced by Montebello Associates in 1982.
